Prepare Your Tools
Gather your supplies. You need a utility knife. You need a putty knife. Buy rubbing alcohol. Get rags. Find painter’s tape. Buy silicone caulk. Use a caulk gun. Get a new faucet. Find a hex key. Use an adjustable wrench. Get plumber’s tape.

Step 1: Remove the Existing Caulk
Start at the corner. Insert the utility knife. Slice the top edge. Slice the bottom edge. Pull the strip. Use the putty knife for stubborn bits. Scrape the tile. Scrape the tub. Do not scratch the surface. Remove every piece. Vacuum the debris.

Step 2: Clean and Dry the Surface
Pour alcohol on a rag. Wipe the joints. Remove soap scum. Remove oils. Use a toothbrush for the corners. Scrub the mold. Dry the area with a towel. Use a hairdryer, then wait. The surface must be dry. Moisture prevents bonding. Wait one hour.
Step 3: Remove the Bathtub Faucet
Go to the water main. Turn the valve. Shut off the water. Open the faucet. Let the water drain. Look under the spout. Find the set screw. Use the hex key, then loosen the screw. Pull the spout toward you. It slides off the pipe. Use the wrench if the spout screws on. Turn it counter-clockwise. Clean the pipe threads. Remove old tape.

Step 4: Install the New Faucet
Take the plumber’s tape. Wrap the pipe threads. Wrap it three times. Move clockwise. Take the new spout. Slide it onto the pipe. Tighten the set screw, then check the fit. If it screws on, turn it clockwise. Use the wrench. Stop when it is snug. Do not over-tighten. Turn the water main back on. Test for leaks.
Step 5: Apply New Caulk and Finish
Place painter’s tape. Put one strip on the tile. Put one strip on the tub. Leave a small gap. Load the caulk gun. Cut the nozzle at an angle. Squeeze the trigger, then move the gun. Keep a steady pace. Fill the gap. Wet your finger. Drag your finger over the bead. Smooth the surface. Peel the tape. Pull it at an angle. Let the caulk cure. Wait 24 hours. Do not use the tub.
